Rhode Island Works

The RIW Program is a family-focused program that works in connection with DHS to provide case management services to families who receive cash assistance. The program helps families work toward greater self-sufficiency by providing individualized support based on each family’s needs and circumstances.

Clients participate in the RIW Program through referrals from the DHS office. DHS Social Caseworkers work with parents to develop an individualized employment plan that outlines activities and services appropriate to their specific situation and goals. The activities and requirements may vary from client to client and are determined on a case-by-case basis.

The RIW Program also connects clients with community resources and may provide essential items, such as diapers, to help meet families’ immediate needs.

We believe that supporting families is essential because strong families are the foundation of healthy communities. When families have access to the support and resources they need, they are better equipped to thrive, overcome barriers, break cycles of poverty, and contribute positively to their communities.
