Real Skills for Youth (RSFY)
Summer Youth Employment Program
BVCAP’s Real Skills for Youth (RSFY) program provides youth ages 14–18 with paid summer employment, career exploration, and workforce development opportunities. Through partnerships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and community organizations, youth are placed at internship sites where they gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment.
Throughout the program, participants develop essential workplace skills including communication, teamwork, time management, responsibility, professionalism, problem-solving, and leadership. Youth also have an opportunity to explore different career paths, build professional connections, and gain experience that can help prepare them for future employment and educational opportunities.
In addition to their internship experience, participants attend paid workforce-readiness workshops covering topics such as:
- Resume development and job applications
- Interview preparation and practice
- Career exploration
- Financial literacy and money management
- Workplace communication and professionalism
- Health and workplace safety
- Teamwork and leadership
- Goal setting and preparing for future employment
RSFY is designed to provide more than a summer job. The program gives young people an opportunity to earn wages, gain real-world experience, build confidence, develop transferable skills, and begin preparing for their future.
